Mayor of Thermaikos

Theodoros Tzekos was born in 1978 and raised in Epanomi, Thessaloniki. His father was from Epanomi, while his mother, of refugee origin, came from Nea Michaniona, with roots in Çeşme, Smyrna.

He graduated from the public Lyceum of Epanomi and pursued studies in Political Science and International Relations at Panteion University, where he also completed a Master’s degree in International Economic Law with highest distinction. He subsequently studied Law at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

After serving his military duty as a Reserve Sergeant in the Armored Corps, he worked in the private sector in sales (including at LIDL and other companies), as a vocational training instructor at a Public IEK (Institute of Vocational Training), as well as in various other positions. Since 2008, he has been practicing law actively as a lawyer admitted before the Supreme Court of Greece and a member of the Thessaloniki Bar Association. He is also an accredited mediator by the Ministry of Justice in civil and commercial disputes, as well as a certified professional of the Hellenic Social Security Fund (EFKA) for pension issuance.

From his school and university years, he has been actively engaged in public affairs, participating in student representation bodies, including serving as the elected representative of postgraduate students in the Senate of Panteion University.

He was also an athlete and later a board member of the sports association “Aristotelis Epanomis.”

In 2006, he was elected municipal councilor of the former Municipality of Epanomi, also serving as President of the Municipality’s Cultural and Athletic Center and participating in various committees and municipal bodies. From 2014 to 2019, he was a municipal councilor of the Municipality of Thermaikos, holding the position of Deputy Mayor of Education and Social Solidarity from September 2014 to February 2017. During his tenure, the municipality’s social structures were established (including the municipal grocery, soup kitchen, medical center, and tutoring program), the Lifelong Learning Center began operations, the Special Primary School was founded, and several other significant projects were implemented.
