IP Director & Public Sector Lead

Dr. Georgios Asimopoulos received his first degree in Chemistry from University of Ioannina, Greece, and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Virginia Tech, USA, for the development of algorithms for compression, storage and analysis of 3-dimensional spectroscopic data. During his staying at Virginia Tech he was elected president at the Council of International Student Organizations, he received a Research Fellowship from Perkin-Elmer, as well as, several other honors and awards.

After his graduation he remained in USA where he worked as an Application Scientist and Product Manager at LT Industries Inc. Rockville MD, developing new hardware and software products and application in the area of Near Infrared technology. At the same time, he was responsible for On-line process control installations of Near Infrared process analyzers worldwide in different industrial environments, including refineries, chemicals, food products, polymers etc.

Dr. Georgios Asimopoulos returned to Greece in 1996 where he served in the Greek Army as a chemist in the Laboratory for jet aircraft fuel quality control and then worked at Singular Software S.A. initially in the department of European Programs and then as International Marketing Manager supervising marketing and public relations activities in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungry, Czech Republic and Poland.

From 2001 to 2015, Dr. Georgios Asimopoulos was the General Manager / Managing Director of Technopolis Thessalonikis responsible for the development and operation of the first private High Technology Business Park in Greece as well as the development and operation of Technopolis Business Incubator offering support, mentoring and coaching to technology start-ups. Also, in 2017 he worked as Project Manager for the development of Thessaloniki International Technology Center (Thess-INTEC), a new 4th generation Technology Park

In March of 2018 he joined Hellenic Industrial Property Organization (OBI) in order to organize and operate the Regional Office of Thessaloniki, offering IP related services to inventors, Universities and SMEs in the region. In January 2021 he was assigned to coordinate the operation of all Regional Office of OBI in Greece and in April 2021 he joined as a National Office Representative the Working Group “IP Outreach to foster innovation” of European Patent Office (EPO).
